Trucking companies are highly experienced in hauling a multitude of varieties of materials. Some fleets are very specialized, and focus on a particular type of freight; for instance, some companies have only refrigerated trucks and are used in the delivery of cold or frozen freight. The trucking industry has evolved with the rising costs of fuel, and many companies are hiring consultants to work out ways to coordinate product distribution in order to reduce the number of trips for each truck and trailer. While it may appear to the average motorists that the interstates are full of freight trucks, in reality this number has been reduced as the logistics of the industry have resulted in fewer trucks on the road at any given time.
