Variety stores are retailers that tend to sell a great many different items. Many variety stores are dollar stores, 99 cent stores or 98 cent stores that set one price for every item sold in the store. Some variety stores specialize in selling bargains and close outs. There are national variety store chains and there are locally-owned variety stores. Some variety stores are general stores that are found in small towns. Most variety stores sell a limited number of food items, cleaning supplies and toys. Some variety stores also sell some clothing, tools and decorative items. Some variety stores have constantly changing inventories and this can lead to some inconsistencies as to what items are in stock at different times.
