Many people want to add architectural distinction to their home or business. A cost effective way to do this is by adding awnings or canopies to protect windows and doors from the elements. Awnings and canopies usually consist of lightweight frames made of aluminum or steel tubing, covered with fabric, metal, or special plastic material. Awnings are almost always permanently attached to the structures they protect. Canopies may be portable or fixed. Portable canopies may be used to provide shade at picnics or parties. Fixed canopies provide weather protection for people entering a restaurant or apartment building and similar applications. Some suppliers specialize on awnings, others on canopies, and many do both.
