Very few people are ever excited about having to use the services of a hospital. However, today's modern hospitals are usually able to provide patients with optimum comfort during their stay. Many procedures, such as ophthalmology, gynecology, and gastroenterology procedures, are relatively minor and are often designated as outpatient. During an outpatient visit to a hospital, when the patients' surgery or procedure is completed, he or she is watched closely by staff nurses to monitor progress. When the staff is sure that the patient is stable enough to go home, the discharge takes place, and the patient is usually free to leave the hospital with their written follow-up instructions. Pediatric care is another area of the hospital with frequent outpatient visits, and most parents are very glad to take their children home from the hospital as quickly as possible.
