In order to turn a two-dimensional drawing or blueprint of a product into a three-dimensional model or prototype of that product, companies and individuals enlist the services of pattern makers. It is the business of pattern makers to turn two-dimensional ideas and bring them to three-dimensional life as patterns or models. These patterns or models can then be taken to foundries where metal fabrications of them can be made. Pattern makers often offer trouble-shooting services so that the two-dimensional ideas can be better brought to three-dimensional life. Pattern makers often make wood, metal or plastic prototypes or models of products. Most any product made in a foundry can be modeled by pattern makers.
