Kerosene is a petroleum product that is used to fuel camping stoves and some portable heaters. In the second half of the 19th century and the first part of the 20th century kerosene was used extensively to light the night through kerosene lamps. The advent of the light bulb led to the downfall of kerosene in the developed world. Some people still do use kerosene lamps on camping trips and as backups for when the power goes out. Kerosene lamps can sometimes be purchased at camping outfitters, army-navy supply stores and other emergency supply stores. Kerosene itself can sometimes be bought where kerosene stoves, lamps and heaters are sold. Kerosene is sometimes sold at filling stations and petroleum product stores. Kerosene stoves are sold at camping stores. Kerosene heaters are sometimes sold at heating stove stores.
