Manicure and pedicure services are offered by businesses that specialize in manicures and pedicures and by businesses such as beauty salons and spas. Manicures are cosmetic treatments conducted to beautify the hands, fingers and fingernails. Pedicures are similar to manicures but are for the feet, toes and toenails. Manicurists and pedicurists trim, file, shape and often color toenails and fingernails in order to beautify them. Sometimes artificial fingernail tips are applied during a manicure. In some places manicurists and pedicurists must be licensed by the state. Manicures and pedicures often involve soaking the hands and feet in lotion or other substance to soften the skin. Paraffin wax is also sometimes used to remove dead skin during manicures and pedicures.
