Hospice services are intended to make a person suffering from a terminal illness as comfortable and relaxed as possible. In addition to treating the person suffering from the disease, hospice services also allow family members and loved ones more time to spend with them, and less time caring for them. A hospice service may be able to work from a patient's home, but others may require a person be relocated to a medical facility or nursing home. Hospices usually offer medication and other medical treatments to relieve a patient's pain and discomfort, but will generally medicate the patients in a way so they are still aware and able to communicate with those around them.
