Most Americans do not realize just how much garbage we produce. The average American actually produces trash at the astonishing rate of four pounds per person per day. This results in 600,000 tons per day, or 210 million tons per year, of garbage that will need to be disposed of. America is the greatest producer of trash in the world, generating almost twice the amount as most other major nations. Many people wonder what happens to this trash. While some gets recycled or recovered and some is burned, the majority of garbage in America is buried in landfills, which are disposal sites for the deposit of waste.
