When a map store needs to buy a map, they normally get them from map distributors. Map distributors distribute maps that are made by map publishers. Map publishers employ cartographers to design and draw maps. Map publishing firms then publish the maps made by their map makers. Some map publishers specialize in making highly specialized maps such as geological maps. Other map publishers publish all kinds of maps. Some map makers mostly make wall maps and other kinds of charts while other publishers also publish atlases and make globes. Some map distributors distribute highly specialized maps while others distribute all kinds of maps. Some kinds of maps that map publishers publish and map distributors distribute include: political maps, topographic maps, relief maps, road maps, nautical charts aeronautical charts, hiking maps, historical maps, bicycling maps, globes, geological maps, meteorological maps; and atlases.
