People who want to earn money on the real estate market but who do not want to own properties all over the place will often invest in real estate investment trusts. Real estate investment trusts are securities that sell on exchanges and earn money through real estate investments. Equity real estate investment trusts actually own real estate properties and earn investors revenue based upon the rents paid by those who occupy or use the real estate. Mortgage real estate investment trusts earn loan money to real estate owners and earn revenue from the interest that is paid on these loans. Hybrid real estate investment trusts combine aspects of both mortgage real estate investment trusts and equity real estate investment trusts. Some brokerage firms specialize in buying and selling real estate investment trusts. Some of these firms mostly deal with mortgage real estate investment trusts while others mostly deal with hybrid real estate investment trusts or equity real estate investment trusts.
