French food varies from region to region in France and is influenced by the ingredients available locally. What is known outside of France as "French food" is usually the cuisine of the higher classes of Paris. French food served in Paris is mostly influenced by the regional French foods found in northern France. French food served in restaurants in both Paris and regionally use wine and cheese as an integral part of the meal whether as an ingredient of or as an accompient to a French meal. These influences in France show up in French food restuarants in the United States. These distinctions may be important when people choose a French food restaurant in the United States.
