Writers may specialize in writing for one type of genre like non-fiction biography, advertising copy, or fictional novels. Writers may be hired on a contract basis, by the hour or by the project, or writers may be full time permanent employees. When writers are paid they may be paid based on the amount of work they write, or writers may be paid for how much time they spend writing. If a writer does not take writing credit for what they write, this is referred to as ghost writing. There are as many kinds of writers as there are kinds of writing.
