In order to help prevent the serious injury and possible death that can result from high levels of gas exposure, many people will choose to have a gas detector installed in their home or office. Gas detectors are usually small devices that are able to detect the presence of harmful gases that can sometimes enter a home through a leak in the homes natural gas system. Gas detectors are usually designed to be able to detect one type of gas, such as carbon monoxide, ammonia or hydrogen, although there are some that can detect a wide range of harmful gases.
