In order to use as few bandwidths as possible for paging and signaling purposes, in many areas one company controls the bandwidth at which paging signals are broadcast. Companies that control and area's paging and signaling bandwidths are called common carrier paging and signaling services or common carrier paging companies. Some common carrier companies control paging and signaling bandwidths in many areas while others may only control the bandwidths in one area or in a small number of areas. Common carrier signaling and paging companies let other companies use their bandwidths so that these other companies can supply their customers with beeper and paging services. Some paging and signaling common carrier companies also control the bandwidths used in an area for cellular telephones or for wireless Internet services.
