Whether you want to fight city hall, or just find it, knowing how to search through the various categories of city or township offices will be useful. Most city governments have official information services available, both online (e-government sites) and over the telephone. If you're at a loss as to how to contact the proper person, this may be the place to start. If you know more, you can search using the name of the association, agency, commission. If you have an individual's name, look on the town Web site for a telephone directory. Make sure you're checking the right site, however. There are usually separate sites for municipal (city), county, state, national and international agencies - for instance, the court systems for each of those categories are separate, and unlikely to share directories or Web sites. Community bulletin boards can be a good source of regional information, as well as local newspapers.
