Hearing aid audiology is specifically focused on assessing the nature and degree of hearing impairment, and the use of hearing aids to improve that impairment. If hearing loss is present, an audiologist attempts to determine the physical cause of the problem such as middle ear versus inner ear dysfunction, and then proposes to the patient what options may help to restore hearing. Hearing aid audiology deals with hearing restoration through the dispensing of hearing aids. There are a number of different types of hearing aids, depending upon the type and severity of the hearing impairment. Most hearing aids are battery operated, with small circular batteries that need to be replaced on a regular basis.
