Vineyards are farms that specialize in growing grapes. The vast, vast, vast majority of vineyards grow grapes that are used to make wine and many vineyards also have wineries where the juices of the grapes are turned into wine. A few vineyards grow the grapes that are sold in grocery stores and a few vineyards grow grapes that are used to make brandy or fortified wines. Many wine growers produce their own labels of wine. Some vineyards sell their grapes to large winemakers. Different vineyards grow different kinds of grapes. The climate and the soils found in an area largely determine what grapes are grown in the vineyards of that area. Different climates and soil types are conducive for growing different types of grapes. Some vineyards may grow several types of grapes while others may just grow one.
