Marinas can be found at some freshwater lakes, rivers, or along ocean coastlines. The marina is commonly located in a bay or other area that will protect the marina from harmful waves that form in bad weather. Marinas often serve several purposes by providing a place for boats to moor and a home for marine businesses that cater to the maritime industry. A marine boat rental company, fishing tackle marine store, even a Coast Guard marine station may be based at a marina. Some marinas also have a marine themed restaurant. Often you can fish from the marina's dock. The person in charge of the marina is often called the dock master.
