Cabinet makers usually have certain products that they build on a regular basis and keep in stock, but they are known for their ability to do customized work. Customers may bring cabinet makers blueprints or specifications of what they need, or they may ask to have the piece designed from scratch. Then the cabinet maker selects the best wood he or she can find, looking for the proper color, strength, and grain to complete the project. After cutting, assembling, and sanding the pieces, the cabinet maker will finish the product with varnish, stain, or paint, and the necessary hardware is added. If installation is necessary, the cabinet maker often does that as well.
