Many people think of hot, hot, hot, when hearing the phrase Thai food. However, some Thai food can actually be prepared as comparatively bland, because the fundamental philosophy behind Thai food is to achieve harmony in each dish. The characteristics of Thai food are influenced by who cooks it, for whom it is being prepared, the occasion it is being prepared for and the place it is being cooked. Original Thai food reflected the waterborne lifestyle of Thailand, with ingredients such as aquatic animals, plants and local herbs being used. Large pieces of meats were not normally part of traditional Thai food.
