Cemeteries are the focal point for memorializing the deceased. It is a natural need to remember and be remembered. There are many choices to make when choosing a cemetery and gravesite. Size, location, and price are just a few considerations. Some families prefer modern memorial parks, with flat memorials, and lots of gardens, fountains, and sculptures. Others prefer traditional cemeteries with long histories in their communities and upright tombstones. Many cemeteries also offer above-ground interment in mausoleums. Cemeteries may be privately owned, or sometimes owned by local government agencies, religious groups, fraternal organizations, or Native American tribes.
