When a person goes to get their vehicle tags for the first time, they will frequently get temporary license plates and tag information to attach to their car which is usually valid for about 30 days. Some vehicle tag centers may mail the final tags and plates to a person's home, while others require the person to come and pick them up. Driving with expired tags or license plates is illegal in every state, so it is important that a person gets their new tags as soon as possible, so they will not be in danger of getting ticketed or fined because of having expired tags.
