There are many different types of lockers. People are usually most familiar with the type of lockers they encountered in school. Large walk-in refrigerated compartments are also called lockers, such as meat lockers. And the nautical use of the word locker refers to a chest or compartment where items are stowed. Lockers come in many different shapes and sizes, from single tier where individual lockers are side by side, to double tier where one locker is on top of another, to box style such as the smaller coin-operated lockers you may see in bus and train stations. Many lockers have some type of perforation to allow air to circulate.
