Because companies will often need a place to store commodities and merchandise until they are shipped or transferred to other locations, many of them will choose to operate a warehouse. Warehouses are usually large buildings that are designed to accommodate large amounts of goods, and which usually contain multiple berths from which trucks can load of unload goods. Companies will often own a warehouse in order to store merchandise such as electronics, clothing, books, and other consumer goods, as well as commodities such as oil, metals, chemicals and surplus farm products. Warehouses are usually located close to interstate shipping routes.
