Nursing homes and residential care facilities are establishments that provide residential, social and personal care for senior citizens, children, and special categories of individuals with some limits on ability for self-care. Nursing homes tend to put more emphasis on the medical care of their residents, while residential care facilities are for residents who require skilled care for daily living, but medical care is not a major element. There are various types of nursing homes and residential care facilities, some specializing in specific categories of residents. Besides traditional nursing homes, there are group foster homes; halfway group homes; homes for the physically and mentally disabled; homes for the elderly; juvenile correctional homes; rehabilitation or residential centers; and children's boarding homes.
