When a person who lists themselves as an organ donor dies, their healthy organs and tissues are often harvested and taken to an organ bank or to a tissue bank. Some organ banks specialize in keeping certain kinds of organs, such as an eye bank, and some tissue banks specialize in keeping certain kinds of human tissues.
