Record labels are companies or divisions of companies that specialize in recording and promoting musical artists. Record labels also distribute and produce records, cassettes and CDs containing the music of the artists they sign. Different kinds of record labels sign different kinds of artists and different kinds of record labels specialize in promoting and recording different genres of music. Some record labels are hip hop record labels while others are punk record labels, electronica record labels, or country record labels. Some record labels sign, record and promote all kinds of musical artists. Some record labels are major record labels that have the money to spend a great deal on the promotion of the artists they sign. Other record labels are independent record labels that tend to have less money to promote the artists they sign and record.
