Asking them for adoption references and if they are affiliated with any other rescue foundation companies or organizations can also help you determine how reliable the companies will be. Customer service is also very important. There you can find websites for local humane societies and animal adoption centers, learn about the humane treatment of animals, learn how to properly care for an adopted pet, and learn about wild rescues and animal control. When visiting your local animal shelter, be sure to choose a pet that matches your personality and home life. If you have a large family with lots of small children running around and want to adopt a cat, for instance, choose one that came from a loud home and is used to small children. Some cats are loners and don't want to cuddle. They can even be downright ornery. Consider personality when adopting a pet.
