--Types of Aquariums--
Aquariums can be either saltwater or freshwater, depending on the type of fish or marine creatures you wish to keep. Aquariums kept in homes by hobbyists can be as small as 3 gallons, or as large as hundreds of gallons. Most aquariums consist of simple glass panes bonded together by silicone. Usually plastic frames are attached to the upper and lower edges for decoration. Price, availability, and reliability make the glass aquarium an industry standard for sizes up to about 250 gallons. Acrylic aquariums are also available. Laminated glass might be used, which combines the advantages of both glass and acrylic. While many aquariums are rectangular shaped, aquariums come in a variety of shapes such as cuboid, hexagonal, angled to fit in a corner, bow-front (the front side curves outwards), and more. Uniquely shaped aquariums are often made out of acrylic.
