How to find or choose art instruction and schools
Art schools are educational institutions that teach the visual arts, including graphic design, photography, sculpture, painting, drawing and illustration. Students can enroll in either graduate or undergraduate programs, and focus on any area of art, from the fine arts to ceramics to industrial design. But art is not limited to fine art that you would find in a museum. You can even take culinary art, computer art, interior design, fashion and marketing art, video game art, graphic arts, photography and sculpture instruction. Sometimes, people teach art instruction from their home, so be on the lookout for online and newspaper ads. Check online directories for art school institutes or art instruction listings near you, information on art programs, career training information and financial aid sources. Target your search to art schools that focus on your particular interest, such as fashion design and marketing, media arts, animation, culinary arts or art composition. You can find and compare art schools for degree programs to find which one suits you best. Some art institutes put a twist on art and offer computer animation programs, for students looking to create art for video games or motion pictures. If a career in interior design is what you're interested in, there are schools for you too. Many art school websites offer student testimonials, student art galleries, financial aid information, videos, information on online courses and instruction, and an opportunity to apply to the school online. You can even browse the various education degrees available. When choosing an art school, make sure the one you select is accredited, both for regular courses and online courses. If you are enrolled in an undergraduate art program and would like to apply for the graduate program, speak to the appropriate education office at the art school.

Some art institutes teach courses other than those that are considered fine arts. While classes like composition, painting, and drawing are important to many people who want to be artists, these aren't the fields that they everyone necessarily wants as careers. Students who are interested in subjects like interior design and computer animation may want to attend an art institute that offers courses on these subjects. People who are experienced in interior design can make a comfortable living designing the insides of homes and businesses. Students with experience in computer animation might work in movie production. Many people feel that getting a fine arts education is important to their artistic development, but if a student wishes to learn about newer forms of art, then he or she should contact several art institutes to see which offers the courses that the student wants.
