How to Choose Artists
When you think of an artist, you might have a picture in your mind of a painter who makes original, creative works that are displayed in a famous gallery. There are also many other types of artists, though, that make artwork other than paintings. Some of them do not even work in the visual arts. Anyone that is a creator is essentially an artist, even if that creator writes poetry, raps, is a musician who plays in a band, makes tattoos, or applies makeup. While art is a creative endeavor, there is also a business behind it. Makeup artists, graphic artists, musicians, bands, tattoo artists, and artists who make pictures must purchase equipment and supplies. Musicians are involved in a music business that distributes their music to fans. Those who make sculptures and artwork need to purchase clays and paints. Even graffiti artists need to purchase spray paint and tattoo artists need to purchase ink. Contemporary and historic paints and other types of original artwork are also sold to consumers. Sometimes these works of art are inexpensive and can be afforded by average consumers who would like to add beauty to their homes. Those artworks that cost a lot of money, though, are often bought by a company that has access to larger amounts of funds. Regardless of whether one is a graphic artist that wants to have a career or a person who likes to make pictures or other types of artwork as a creative outlet, there are lots of people that find that the experience is very rewarding.

Artists are people who use imagination, talent and skill to create works of aesthetic value. Artists can work in a variety of media, such as paintings, sculptures, music, writing, dancing, filmmaking and acting. Some artists work for years with limited success in their own life time, to later be considered a person of great significance to a later generation. Some artists are multi-talented and are successful in several areas, such as singers who can also dance and act. Some artists work for companies as graphic designers, photographers and copywriters. Some artists maintain a “day job” that pays most of their bills and then do work for pleasure on the side.
