Typically, banks generate their profits from transaction fees on financial services and on interest banks collect on loans. The word for banks, comes from the Italian word banca, which derived from the German word for bench. Money lenders in Northern Italy did business in large open areas and worked from individual benches in them. Banks in the United States usually have savings and checking account services to provide to customers of the bank. Banks will also accept loan applications from customers wanting to borrow money from them. If approved for a loan, the banks will receive regularly scheduled payments from the borrower, which is made up of principal amount with interest.
