How to Choose Chain Saws
--How Do Chain Saws Work?-- Chainsaws are powered by a small two-stroke gasoline internal combustion engine or, in smaller chain saws, an electric motor. There is also a guide bar and the cutting chain itself. Usually each segment in this chain features a small sharp blade, called a "tooth." In modern chain saws the teeth are not straight blades; they have a forward section that first chips a piece of wood from the bottom of the cut, then another section, at a right angle to the first, which chips a piece from the wall of the cut. There are left and right handed teeth, depending on which wall of the cut they will chip. Left and right teeth are alternated in the chain. The underside of each link features a small metal finger that keeps the tooth centered between the rails of the bar, helps to carry lubricating oil around the bar, and engages with the engine's drive sprocket inside the body of the saw. The engine drives the chain around the track at a high speed, providing an effective (if rather rough) cutting action. --How to Select a Chain Saw-- If you are considering purchasing a chain saw, it's important to buy only the saw you feel comfortable with. Chainsaw manufacturers are using newer and lighter materials to build more powerful but durable machines. You can search for the machine that is comfortable to you and that will not fatigue you too quickly. You may want to consider purchasing an electric saw if you are only an occasional user with light work requirements. --Chain saws are important pieces of equipment for loggers, tree surgeons, and others who may need to cut branches or wood. People who are engaged in forestry activities, such as logging and tree trimming, will often use a chain saw for cutting tough materials because of the powerful cutting mechanisms that they offer. Chain saws are usually powered by a two stroke internal combustion engine that runs on gasoline and is used to power the cutting the chain. The cutting chain is usually made up of short metal segments on which small sharp blades are attached. As the engine powers the chain, the chain then moves rapidly, creating a powerful cutting tool. When using a chain saw, it is often a good idea to have a proper knowledge of their handling and operating.
