Cheerleading is often considered a sport in which people use organized routines in order to cheer on a sports team or encourage the participation of the crowd during a sporting event. Modern cheerleading is usually thought of as a combination of dance and gymnastics and is usually done by a group of people, or cheerleading "squad". Although cheerleading is mainly thought of as a high school sport, many professional sports teams employ professional cheerleaders to help support their teams. Because of the dangers often associated with cheerleading, many squads will participate in safety training courses by organizations such as the AACCA or the NCSSE.
