How to Choose Child Guidance
--How to Find Child Guidance Services--
If your child could benefit from mental, emotional or other type of guidance and support, there are a number of resources and options available to you. Many communities have child guidance centers where families can go to get the help they and their kids need. Many child guidance centers have walk-in clinics where parents can bring their children for an initial assessment and to learn of the programs and services they offer. Some child guidance services can provide on-site school-based mental health services for children who exhibit emotional and behavioral problems that significantly interfere with their functioning. This includes students at risk for academic and delinquency problems, those struggling with anger management, and children who have experienced traumatic events such as witnessing street or gang violence. School personnel refer students to services, which include assessment and evaluation, individual and group therapy, and medication support for children needing psychiatric services. To find child guidance services in your area, you can look in your local phone book, or ask your doctor, school guidance counselor, or social worker. The Internet can also be an excellent resource for locating child guidance services in your community.
--Evaluating Child Guidance Services--
Once you have located child guidance services in your area, you will want to evaluate them to determine if they can provide the services that will be best for your child or your family. There are various questions you can ask to help you with this decision. Find out what programs and services they offer. Do they match up with your needs? Who will be your case manager? Are the services covered by your insurance company? If not, can you turn to other resources for coverage? How long has the child guidance service been in operation? Have they worked with issues similar to yours? What has their experience with these issues been in the past?
--Child guidance services can be a wonderful resource for children and families who are experiencing mental or emotional health issues. The Internet can help you find the child guidance resources that you and your child need.

The vast majority of child guidance programs and child guidance organizations ether are non-profit organizations or are run by non-profit organizations. Different child guidance programs and organizations have different missions and strive to help children and youths in different ways. Some child guidance organizations make it their mission to help the youth and the children of impoverished nations by providing them vitally needed services. Some child guidance organizations make it their mission to help at-risk youths and at-risk children in a variety of ways such as: providing safe havens in tough neighborhoods; provide counseling services; providing social and learning opportunities they could have never otherwise had access to; and by offering tutoring services. Other child guidance and youth guidance services make it their mission to help gifted children excel. Other child guidance organizations make it their mission to help developmentally disabled kids, physically disabled kids and children with learning disabilities adjust and learn.
