How to Choose Deburring
Deburring removes the rough edges that often result from fabricating geometric shapes and products from glass and metals like aluminum and stainless steel. There are a variety of ways to achieve deburring. There are vibratory, tumbling, centrifugal, and hand methods of smoothing the glass and metal. When you contact the deburring companies, ask them how long they have been in business. Those with several years of experience should be familiar with the different treatment processes. They might use machines and tools for procedures like blasting water at the media; they might use high speed for creating centrifugal force in barrels; they might use sand, beads, or abrasive compounds; or they might try shaking sand or beads with the metal or glass shapes in a controlled environment. The type of the procedure that they use often depends on the cubic sizes, shapes, and make up of the products. Ask the companies if they provide written quotes for their services. That way, you'll be able to compare the costs of using different companies. You might find that vibratory methods are cheaper with one company but tumbling methods are cheaper with another. You should also ask them if their quotes include the cost of delivering the components back to you after they have been deburred. It might be possible for you to try deburring yourself, but there is often wastewater, high speeds, complicated equipment and systems, abrasive compounds used in the process, and you have to know cleaning and drying methods for different media. Doing it by hand usually takes more time. If you want to make sure that the internal portions of your parts stay inline, then it is often best to outsource the work to a company with several years of experience.
