There are many different uses for dry ice in both the commercial and consumer areas. Dry ice is commonly used as a packing material to ensure that perishable goods will not rot or go bad while in transit. A store that ships out meat or ice cream will commonly use dry ice to make sure the product survives the shipping process. Dry ice is commonly used in the commercial world to purge fuel tanks, remove tile, retard chemical catalysts and shrink metal. Dry ice may also be used to freeze unstable ground, brand animals and stop water lines that do not have operational shut-off valves.
