Ear, nose and throat doctors, or ENT for short, provide specialized services for the facial area of the body. They spend many years studying the neck, face, ears, nose, and throat to be able to provide patients with knowledgeable care for the structural parts of these areas. For instance, if a child is having chronic sinus problems that a regular doctor cannot solve, the child would be sent to an ENT physician. These doctors also handle specialized surgery on the vocal cords, or even reconstructive surgery for damaged facial or nasal structures. Actually, for ear problems, you might want to seek out a neurotologist, which is an ear, nose and throat specialist that focuses specifically on problems with the ears. This type of physician will be able to provide health care for hearing problems, and can even handle the surgery if you need tubes in your ears. More often then not, services provided by the ENT, also known as an otolaryngologist, are covered by insurance plans. Be sure to ask the office you are thinking of attending if they accept your type of insurance, and ask the medical health care provider what services they cover. To find reliable ear, nose and throat practice, begin by asking your regular doctor for referrals for your specific problem. Also try asking your insurance company for recommendations on physicians, or check out the internet for doctors that treat allergy and sinus related disorders. If you need to, visit a few physicians until you find one you are comfortable with.
