Many economic development agencies exist on the local, state, as well as federal level. Each economic development agency focuses on a specific area such as homelessness, community development, or housing. Economic development agencies may belong to one or more national agencies that assist the individual economic development agencies. Many economic development agencies foster education, sponsor innovative legislature policies, and community development. Economic development agencies may provide grants to local and state communities to encourage new employment, keep existing jobs, and encourage the growth of new industries. Economic development agencies may focus on areas of the country that are especially struggling with their economy and industrial growth.
