Gloves are fitted coverings for the hand with a separate sheath for each finger and the thumb. Gloves can be used for a variety of purposes, including fashion and warmth in cold weather, but in the work and industrial arena they are mainly used to protect and comfort the hands of the wearer against extreme temperatures, physical damage by friction, abrasion or chemicals, and disease; or to provide a guard against direct skin contact with things that are undesirable to touch. For example, in the healthcare industry latex, rubber or vinyl disposable gloves are often worn by healthcare practitioners for the purpose of hygiene and contamination prevention.
