Industrial developments are an intensive type of land use for economic activity involved with manufacturing, production, warehousing, distribution and other industrial activities and uses. Industrial developments can be designed around a specific industry, such as oil and fuel, or can house a variety of industrial and commercial tenants. They can also range in use from light to heavy industry. Light industry is usually less capital intensive than heavy industry, and is more consumer-oriented than business-oriented. It also has less environmental impact than heavy industry, so industrial developments for light industry are more tolerated in residential areas. Light industry can be defines as a manufacturing activity that use moderate amounts of partially processed materials to produce items of relatively high value per unit weight.
