Specialized logging equipment and supplies are necessary to the operation of timber harvesting. Logging can be carried out by three different methods: tree-length, full tree, and cut-to-length. In tree-length, the trees are felled then de-limbed and topped at the stump; the log is then transported to the landing, where it is bucked and loaded on a truck. In full-tree, trees are felled and transported roadside with top and limbs intact, and are then de-limbed and bucked at the landing. Cut-to-length means that threes are felled, de-limbed, bucked and sorted right in the forest. Various types of logging equipment and supplies will be used depending on which type of logging is being performed.
