Nurses are health care professionals focused on assisting individuals, families and communities in attaining, re-attaining and maintaining optimal health and functioning. Nurses practice the art and science of nursing, which involves promoting quality of life as defined by persons and families, throughout their life experiences from birth to care at the end of life. Registered nurses are nurses who are listed on the nurses' registries maintained by the licensing body that regulates the nursing profession. The term “nurses' registries” is also commonly used to refer to a nursing agency, a private business which provides per diem nursing personnel to hospitals, medical offices and individuals.
