Nursing and convalescent homes are frequently contacted by the elderly and their caretakers. Many times as a person ages and their medical problems increase, it can become very difficult for an individual or family to care for them, so they may have them move into a nursing or convalescent home. In addition to the elderly, individuals of any age who have suffered from debilitating injuries or serious diseases may also be placed in a nursing or convalescent home. Some nursing and convalescent homes will only accept elderly patients, and may have special programs and activities set up that tailor to the elderly. Many nursing and convalescent homes offer both short and long-term care, so if a person is recovering from an illness or surgery they might also be placed in a nursing or convalescent home.
