Becoming a paralegal is one way to quickly enter the criminal justice sectors. As a paralegal, or legal assistant, you will complete many administrative tasks in your support role, and be a vital part of legal document preparation. Many legal assistants interview witnesses, research client complaints, and perform other assignments as the legal team prepares cases for trial. The education to become a paralegal is stringent, and the training program might involve an internship with criminal justice, corporate, and civil attorneys who can give the student real-world experience in drafting legal briefs. Upon graduation, the paralegal usually must obtain certification in the state in which they want to work. If you contact your local community college or your state's bar association, they should be able to give you information about where to obtain legal assistant education.
