When people are new to a community, get on a new health plan, or just need a new doctor, they often go to physician and surgeon information and referral services to help find a new doctor. Most physician referral and information services have data bases listing primary care physicians, specialists, pediatricians and dentists. The data bases normally list a doctor's medical credential; what types of insurance a doctor takes; whether the doctor takes Medicare and Medicaid patients; a doctor's office hours and locations; what languages the doctor speaks; and what payment options the doctor takes. Physician information and referral services will also be able to tell you if a doctor is taking new patients. Some will even make appointments for you.
