When a person is feeling depressed or over-anxious, they may seek the help of a psychiatrist. A person suffering from a severe mental illness, such as schizophrenia, manic-depression or any other form of psychosis may also seek the help of a psychiatrist to help them manage their disorder. Psychiatrists will often talk with their patients in therapy sessions to help them work through and deal with their problems and disorders, and many psychiatrists will also prescribe medication that may help their patients overcome their mental problems. Psychiatrists are also contacted by people who are not suffering from severe mental problems, but may just have problems communicating with others, have irrational fears or by individuals who just want to improve the quality of their life.
