A pump is machine or device for raising, compressing, or transferring fluids or gases. Pumps work by using mechanical forces to push the liquid or gas, either by physically lifting, or by the force of compression. Pumps fall into two general categories: positive displacement pumps, which force fluid from one sealed chamber to another with little leakage, and dynamic pumps, which use the momentum of the fluid to move it across an unsealed chamber. Pumps are used in a wide variety of industries, including oil and gas production, chemical processing, water resources, power generation, nuclear, mining & general processing, and pulp & paper.
