Railroad companies continue to offer passenger trains to people who are interested in using this form of transportation for their travels. Riding an Amtrak train from coast to coast is not only more economical than airfare, but will allow riders of passenger trains to enjoy the landscape along the way. You can contact your local train station to find out what the train schedule is, because they usually run several times a day. Because many railroad companies also operate freight trains, in addition to passenger trains, they have to coordinate the schedule of both types throughout the day. Once you have your ticket for your chosen train, you will need to find out when your boarding time is. Schedules are tight, and seating on passenger trains is usually first come first serve, so make sure you allot yourself plenty of time to arrive at the train station and find your departing platform.
